The coolant thermostat is used to quickly reach the optimum engine temperature and promptly enable a comfortable temperature in the passenger compartment. The combination of a wax thermostat and an electric heating element guarantees a fuel-saving higher operating temperature. A torque increase of about 2 - 3 % is achieved by lowering the temperature under load.
