Air flow and pressure sensors provide the engine control unit (ECU) with information about the air entering the engine. These measurements help the ECU manage fuel delivery, engine operation and, where applicable, turbocharger control.

A mass air flow (MAF) sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine, while a manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor measures intake manifold pressure. Boost pressure sensors monitor pressure in compatible turbocharged systems, and intake air temperature sensors measure incoming air temperature.
